Support Us The running and maintenance of an elderly vessel is expensive and we depend heavily on grants, donations and fundraising. In addition, we need members who will support and participate in the very wide range of activities Kenya Jacaranda Heritage Sailing has to offer. Heritage Sponsorship Kenya Jacaranda Heritage Sailing is ‘relaunching’ this historic Brixham trawler with new aims and objectives which are to preserve ‘KJ’ for posterity and to engage people in all walks of life, especially young people, in her preservation, maintenance and sailing activities. To set our mission in motion we are inviting 64 very special companies, organisations and individuals (or groups of individuals) to become Heritage Sponsors. 64 Heritage Sponsorships are being offered in the best nautical traditions, reflecting the 64 ‘shares’ which were, for centuries, used to define ship ownership. Today, Heritage Sponsorship does not imply ownership – nor does it imply responsibility. Instead, it is a wonderful expression of generosity and your concern for the future of this historic ship, an important part of our maritime heritage. Heritage Sponsorship of the Kenya Jacaranda costs £1,000 (more if you so wish) and establishes a permanent connection between sponsor and KJ which we will express in the form of life membership of Kenya Jacaranda Heritage Sailing, a framed certificate and a permanent plaque on board. Pledge-a-Plank There is vital work to do on ‘KJ’ and it is extensive, requiring around 2000 linear feet of planking, 45 ribs and the nails, caulking cotton and red lead putty vital to complete the job. To achieve this, we are asking people to sponsor a specific part of the work by pledging to pay for the planking, ribs, fixtures and fittings necessary to complete the work in a traditional way. Membership Membership of Kenya Jacaranda Heritage Sailing is open to everyone and, whether you have a talent for sailing, maintenance, raising funds or simply wish to support us with your membership fee, you will have the great satisfaction of helping to maintain a fine sailing tradition.
